NOW AVAILABLE AS A COLLAR“Veterinarians often see canine patients that exhibit undesirable behavior related to stress,” says Debra Nickelson, DVM and marketing manager for Veterinary Products Laboratories. “The D.A.P. Collar is a new and effective way to use continual release technology to deliver Dog Appeasing Pheromone in order to help dogs cope with new and fearful situations, such as fear of traveling and noise phobias. It also addresses new puppy transition and socialization. D.A.P. Collars are only available through veterinarians.”
Veterinary-developed D.A.P. mimics the pheromone that the mother dog produces to calm and reassure her puppies. Dogs recognize these pheromones throughout life, as they appear to have a relaxing effect on both the young and adults.
Activated by the dog’s body heat, the D.A.P. Collar releases pheromone over four weeks, making it an ideal way for owners to help control stress related behavior, as well as to help socialize the animal with other dogs. With the creation of the D.A.P. Collar, the same innovative technology previously available as a diffuser or spray bottle is now able to go wherever the dog goes, making the treatment more consistent in modifying the dog’s behavior.
The D.A.P. Collar is available in two sizes. The puppy/small dog collar fits necks up to 15 inches, and the medium/large dog collar fits necks up to 25 inches. Excess collar can be trimmed with no loss of efficacy.
The pheromone in the D.A.P. Collar reduces or stops undesirable behavior related to stress in most dogs. In fact, in recent studies,* puppies that wore a D.A.P. Collar showed improved learning and a reduction in fear and anxiety levels compared to puppies with a placebo collar. The D.A.P. Collar also helps dogs cope with new situations, such as adjusting to new homes, new pets, visitors and strange environments, as well as dogs that are frightened of thunderstorms and fireworks.
